Is A Heated Ceiling Fan is a Good Idea?

A heated ceiling fan is an excellent idea for many varied reasons. For instance, the Reiker Corporation’s “Room Conditioner” is a light and fan assembly with a built-in heating element which is easily operated by a remote control without even having to use a wall switch. It is a totally ductless system. Heat rises, and duct systems inefficiently transport heating energy and create heat even in the rooms that are not being used.

Considering that a heated ceiling fan is able to be used both in winter and summer, it becomes a year-round way to distribute heat evenly and, in the end, save you money on your electric bill. Two story homes are normally too warm in the upper story and too cool in the lower story because the bottom half of the rooms receive the heat last. Most thermostats measure the temperature in the bottom half of a house. This can be corrected with the use of this type of fan. High ceilings normally require more electric energy to heat the home because the heat stays up in the ceiling and not down in the living portion of the rooms. Porches and garages without heating or homes without double-paned windows can be well benefitted by the use of this heated fan.

In the winter the hot air is pushed down, reheated, and provides an even temperature. The hot air is distributed upward and then down the walls, across the floor, and then again is forced upwards to be reheated.

In the summer the ceiling fan heater can save up to 40% on air conditioning costs.

Although there are various manufacturers of this fan, one of the most popular is the Reiker “Room Conditioner”, mentioned earlier, with its four built-in ceramic heaters, which reheats the air and draws air right off the ceiling. The fan’s three speeds are also reversible so that the fan can blow up instead of down. If you are working at your desk, it is extremely helpful that your documents will not blow around.

Even though all the hardware needed comes with the ceiling fan heater as well as instructions for easy installation similar to those for a regular fan, if you do not already have a ceiling light fixture that you can replace, it is wise to hire an electrician to install the proper wiring.

Heated ceiling fans are carried by many hardware stores and home centers, or can ordered for you. They are also available online.
